Hovie SUP Team Designer Tim Kernan on SUP Radio
Join Leslie Kolovich and Martin Burzynski as they talk with Tim Kernan -- designer of some of the world’s fastest Yachts. Hear how Tim joined forces with the HovieSUP team and became the design architect for the now world famous “Comet” race board. He tells us the concept of the extra wide tail, wetted surface, drag, lift and stability as opposed to a pintail design. Tim gives us a complete physics lesson on what makes a SUP stable and fast. Tim worked on the design of the “Play Station” -- a record breaking Maxi Cat in 2002/03 for 30-40′ sailboats. He tells us how sailboats and SUP’s share design concepts. Tim sees SUP boards as small boats. Listen to his comments about hydrodynamic forces, power verses drag and other characteristics that enhance speed and stability for both types of vessels. If you listen to the entire interview you will better understand how the HovieSUP Comet enables the paddler to transfer a higher percentage of stroke power into the vessel to maximize “Consistent Speed and Stability”.
