The first race of the year, a money race of 10 miles just after surf expo. A few of the top guys around on 14’s including the Canadian Stallion Larry Cain. (AVERAGE of 9:36 per mile). The start was a go with the first boey just 100 yards from the start. Was able to get behind Bic rider Rob Hess and work my way around the technical part of the race with 5 boey turns and then to head across the channel. Rob cut left as I was behind him and Larry took right in a bolt. I was able to catch Larry and work with him. Switching leads working back and forth we were ahead of the rest of the pack. As we cut up the intercoastal there was a short bridge you had to duck under. I unfortunatly hit my head on it both going up and coming back leaving me nice little bump on my head. The second time at that bridge is when Larry took off with his strong precise stroke with just 3 miles left. With a bump on my head and numb hands and feet I tried keeping a consistant pace of 10 min. mile flat. Finishing second a minute and change behind Larry. Overall it was a fun race and a good one to kick off the season.
